Selling on Consignment

How much commission will I earn?

KOT-J offers some of the most competitive consignment rates in Australia. Rates are based on sold price: calculated from the total sale price before tax. You will receive:

60% - for all items sold under $1,749

65% - for all items sold from $1,750 - $4999

70% - for all items sold from $5,000 - $5999

75% - for all items sold from $6,000 - $9999

80% - for all items sold over $10,000

What is consignment?

Consignment selling means you engage KOT-J to sell goods on your behalf. You recieve payment if and when your item has sold. You will receive notification once an item sells outlining your payout options.

How soon after sales will I be paid?

Consignment payouts are processed on the 1st and 15th of each month. You will receive an automatic notification every time an item sells. Items sold have a 7-day window to allow for exchange, before payment is eligible. Your store account balance will accrue automatically until you request a payout or spend your commission credit. You may login anytime to check the status and balance of your account through our consignor portal HERE

How long will my consignment appraisal take?

Please allow up to 7 days for us to appraise your consignment. For 5 items or less you will typically receive your appraisal within 48 hours.

How do you price consignments?

Our pricing strategy is dynamic and based on current market trends. We use past sales data and extensive research of secondary markets to sell your items at the best price the market determines. All items are unique, so 2 items that look similar might have slightly different prices.  We take multiple factors into account to determine the best prices for your items, such as brand resale value and popularity, item condition, rarity, market trends and release date.

What brands are not accepted?

We do not accept Alexander Wang, Dolce and Gabbana, Gosha Rubchinskiy, Yeezy and all fast fashion labels. See the full list of Unaccepted Brands

What condition of goods does KOT-J accept?

We accept brand new, pre-owned, used and second hand garments in excellent wearable condition, free from stains, damage and odours. We endeavour to only present the highest quality and condition goods to our client.

How are items graded for condition?

Every item will be graded on a scale from Flawless to Fair, noting signs of wear, age and inclusion of original tags and packaging . Items are categorised as the following.

Flawless

This Item shows no signs of wear as if purchased from the original showroom. The item may include original tags, a dust bag, box or packaging and is considered brand new.

Excellent


This item is in excellent unworn condition, but may not include original tags, dust bag, box or packaging. Please note that this is a pre-owned item in near perfect condition, some modest signs of use may be visible.

Very Good


This item may show very minor signs of wear. Shoes may show light scuffing on the soles, innersoles or heels. Bags and accessories may show wear such as lightly worn edges or corners, minor scratches or interior wear.

Good


This item may show moderate signs of wear. Shoes may show signs of wear such as scuffing on the soles, innersoles or heels. Bags and accessories may show wear such as moderately worn edges or corners, moderate scratches or interior wear.

Fair

This item is in worn condition, and still has some aesthetic life left. Showing signs of considerable wear such as worn corners, conspicuous scratches or interior wear. Embrace the derelict and add to the story of this item’s journey.

What happens to unsold consignment?

Once the initial 90 day consignment term has expired, we will recommend a price reduction or the return of unsold items, with allowance made for special and archival items. We offer shipping returns via courier at your expense. We keep a $15.00 holding fee on your account to allow for items being shipped back with no inconvenience to you.

What if I want my items returned before the consignment term finishes?

Email our consignment team to finalize your consignment, any outstanding surcharges on your account will need to be settled, a courier can be organised or alternatively you can collect returns from our Newtown showroom.

How does KOT-J authenticate and check the condition and quality of items?

Our team processes every item meticulously to ensure rigorous authentication standards and the most accurate condition possible for all new and pre-owned goods we curate. We back our experience, data and processes with a lifetime guarantee of 100% authenticity on all items sold.

What happens to items that do not pass authentication? 

Items that do not pass our authentication checks will be returned at your expense, or disposed of on your behalf.

Can I sell items on other platforms simultaneously while consigning with KOT-J?

No, unfortunately KOT-J does not facilitate simultaneous selling by you on other platforms while items are consigned in our possession.

What happens if my consignment is lost, damaged or stolen while on consignment?

KOT-J takes full responsibility while goods are in our possession, protected by insurance and extensive security measures. A lost or damaged item will be paid out to you as if the item sold on consignment as per the original agreement minus the discretionary 10% discount. Items valued over $500.00 have additional insurance during shipment by courier included in the shipping charge.

How long does a product take to sell?

Products selling depend on the brand, condition and size availability. We cannot predict exactly how long items will take to sell. However the majority of items sell within 90 days.

Buying

Are items new or pre-owned?

Most items are pre-owned in excellent condition. Some have never been worn (flawless condition and brand new with tags), and others are gently worn. Each product will specify the condition and any details.

Do you offer returns or exchanges?

We do not offer returns or exchange for change of mind. As per your consumer rights if an item is faulty or not as described please reach out to our customer service team to assist you with a return solution.

How is condition quality determined for pre-owned items sold with KOT-J?

Each item is thoroughly checked, authenticated, repaired and professionally dry cleaned, any flaws on garments or signs of age will be noted in product descriptions. Parts of our available curation are extremely rare and may exhibit some flaws. Every style available will be categorized as Flawless, Excellent, Very good, Good or Fair. Please read description listings carefully before purchasing.

Can I re-consign an item that cannot be returned or exchanged?

All previously consigned items may be considered eligible for re-consignment if ineligible for a return or exchange.

Can I use my store credit online?

This feature is currently available by request only. Send us a request via the contact form or email hello@kot-j.com to update your online account with any available credit.

Do you offer trades or buyouts?

We currently do not offer trade-in or buyouts and only sell on consignment terms.

What if I buy something that's damaged?

We strive to make sure our garments are ready for their second life, garments are pre-owned and may not be in perfect condition. Any flaws or damages as a sign of wear will be clearly noted in the item description. Please read item descriptions carefully before finalising a purchase. If we have missed damage please let us know immediately so we can assist you further.

Can I collect my order from the store?

Yes, please select the click and collect option when checking out and bring photo ID matching the purchase.

How can I track my online order?

You will be provided with tracking information from our delivery partners, via Australia post and DHL.

Log into the shipment provider website to track your shipment. Any issues with shipment or tracking please get in touch with our customer service team.

Can I cancel my order?

We want to get your order to you as fast as possible so when an order is placed, it is immediately prepared for shipping during business hours. Please contact our customer service team as soon as possible to find out if your order is eligible for make any changes.

What are your shipping and delivery options?

We use Australia Post for domestic shipping within Australia and DHL for international shipments. Orders over $500 will be shipped with additional  insurance.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes we use DHL for international shipping. Orders over $500 will be shipped with insurance.

Can I amend my shipping address order once I have confirmed my order?

No, unfortunately the shipping address details cannot be amended once order is confirmed.

What payment options are available?

We accept most credit cards, Eftpos, Afterpay and Paypal.

Commission earned as store credit can be used online by request (send us an email with your details or Contact Us to enable on your online account)

Buy now, Pay Later services are available for purchases of $250.00 - $2000.00.

Do items come with original packaging and collateral?

Not all items are consigned with all original collateral. All items that come with original packaging, tags and collateral will be listed in the item description. Please read descriptions carefully before finalising a purchase.

Where is KOT-J located?

The flagship showroom is located in Newtown, at the south end of King St, 2 minutes walk from St Peters Train Station.

Am I able to try a style that is only available online?

Yes, Contact us to book a styling appointment at our Newtown showroom. The styles you select will be available for you to try on in person at the confirmed appointment time. A minimum 24 hours notice is generally required to ensure confirmation.
