Description

An iconic 1995 archival piece from the Vivienne Westwood's “Erotic Zones” era, reworking 18th-century undergarments into a provocative cul "Bum" cage silhouette worn without bloomers. A rare runway piece that embodies Vivienne Westwood’s fearless exploration of sexuality, power and historical subversion.

Presenting an original AW1995 bum cage from “Vive la Cocotte” in black enamelled steel, this piece was originally purchased from the World's End Store in London in the mid 90's. The cage was reportedly crafted by the father of Vivienne Westwood's husband, Andreas Kronthaler's, a gifted ornamental blacksmith.

This version is available without the original bloomer undergarment, and includes a custom ribbon belt harness commissioned from designer Paris Jade Burrows to allow the piece to be worn as intended, provactively styled over or under garments, or perhaps with nothing at all?

Condition Notes _ Some peeling enamel paint is present on the steel and the wire is slightly misshapen from a horse riding incident when the extravagant wearer took a tumble.

Another version of the cage, with matching knickers, is currently housed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art - Costume Institute and was worn by Gabbriette for the Welcome to Hollyweird by Jen Wolf Editorial for Dazed Magazine 2023.

Materials _ Enamel painted steel wire, cotton belt attachment
Made in the United Kingdom
Measurements taken laid flat _ 40cm wide, 21cm high and 19cm deep. The included ribbon belt attachment fits a waist from 80cm - 120cm adjustable.
